A mother in Minnessota has been accused for drowning her 6-year-old daughter in a bathtub. Kayla Marie Jones told police she wanted to save the child from the world.

Local authorities rushed to an apartment complex shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday on reports of a 6-year-old who had drowned in a bathtub. Daughter Azaria Jones was taken to a local children’s hospital, but was later pronounced dead on arrival.

The local medical examiner’s office has found the cause of death to be freshwater drowning and ruled the death a homicide.

Detectives say Jones told them that she believed her daughter had been molested because she saw her sleeping with her hand down her pants.

According to USA Today, Kayla Marie Jones’ boyfriend says the incident took place after they had a miscommunication, and he left the scene. He said that after he walked to the local bus stop, Jones followed him and told him that he needed to call 911. When the man rushed back to the scene, to his horror, he found the girl in the water in the tub. The boyfriend was screaming and crying when police discovered him at the scene, stating that he couldn’t believe that Jones could do that to her own daughter. Kayla Marie Jones showed no emotion, authorities say.
