Veteran Filipino actor Mark Gil dies at 52

Today the Philippine showbiz industry lost one of the brightest stars.

The veteran actor Mark Gil passed away at 8 a.m. on Monday which was confirmed by his manager, June Rufino. Gil rose to fame in the film Batch 81 directed by Mike de Leon, where he played a neophyte initiated in a fraternity.

Gil died of liver cirrhosis according to media report.

Raphael Joseph De Mesa Eigenmann in real life, the late actor would have turned a year older on September 25.

Early this year, it was speculated that Gil had cancer but this was denied by his children.

The family requests their privacy at this time.

A media announcement providing more details will be issued at 5 p.m. today.

Gil (real name Ralph Eigenmann) belonged to one of the most respected and prominent showbiz clans in the Philippines. He is the brother of actress Cherie Gil and actor Michael de Mesa.

Gil is the father of Andi, Gabby, Maxene, Ira, and Timothy Mark Eigenmann (better known as actor Sid Lucero).

One of Gil’s recent projects was the ABS-CBN primetime soap, The Legal Wife, where he played the role of Dante Ramos.

Fans have expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mark Gil on social media.
