A 22-year-old university student is going to stay outside for 24 hours to raise money for a homeless man named Robbie who gave her his last £3 so she could take a taxi home safely.
Dominique Harrison-Bentzen has lost her bank card but didn’t find out until she went to withdraw money for a taxi.
“I suddenly realized that I had no money and a homeless man approached me with his only change of £3,” Dominique told the Lancashire Evening Post.
“He insisted I took it to pay for a taxi to make sure I got home safe.
“I ended up posting a status on Facebook to try and find him the next day and it turns out I’m not the only person he has helped.”
Robbie appears to have come to the aid of many in Preston city centre, returning wallets to pedestrians and offering his scarf to keep people warm.
And now she will spend 24 hours with Robbie to raise money to help him get back on his feet.
She said: “He has been homeless for seven months through no fault of his own and he can’t get work due to having no address.
Others commenters on Facebook said Robbie has also helped them out before, returning wallets and offering his scarf to people who were cold.
According to news report, Harrison-Bentzen now is trying to raise enough money so that Robbie can rent an apartment by spending 24 hours out on the streets with him.
Harrison-Bentzen said she didn’t end up accepting Robbie’s heartwarming offer, but she wants to pay him back for his generosity to her and others who have been touched by him.
“It’s been difficult but there’s not a chance I’d complain. It’s opened my eyes to what the homeless go through every day.”
