Queen Elizabeth II has made Angelina Jolie an honorary dame for her work she has done to raise awareness against sexual violence around the world and for services to UK foreign policy.
An honorary dame is the female equivalent of knighthood, the highest honor bestowed upon a citizen of the British Empire.
The award was given during a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday. Queen Elizabeth II presented Jolie with the insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George.
However, since the Hollywood actress is a foreign citizen, she receives an Honorary Dame Grand Cross instead of the formal title of Dame.
