SLOVAK REPUBLIC, Daria Frabici

SPAIN, Zaira Bas

There were no clear favorites heading into the finals. So, let’s get down to the real deal: Who Won Miss Earth 2014?

The Winner of Miss Earth 2014 is PHILIPPINES, Jamie Herrell! Well deserved title for Miss Philippines. She carried herself so well all throughout the competition with that poise, elegance, and wit.

But it could have been a great show if only Miss Earth hired an official interpreter for Brazil. Brazil was clearly on her best performance from opening number, then swimsuit and long gown. She was also the first finalist who took the center stage for the top 8, so we’re under the impression maybe she got one of the highest scores for the combined scores both swimsuit and long gown.

Miss Earth started it so well from the opening, then Top 16, Top 8, then missing on getting an official interpreter for one contestant?

This year, netizens were surprised to learn that the Portuguese-speaking Miss Brazil Leticia Silva was not given an official interpreter during the Q&A portion, and instead had fellow candidate Miss Switzerland Shayade Hug translating the English question for her. Not convinced check out this video clip below.

Viewers also criticized the male host as he grabbed the microphone after Brazil delivered just a few lines for her answer even though nothing was heard signifying her time is up. Brazil politely told the host that her answer is yet to be interpreted and the male host obviously reacts as if saying “ah ok then, I’m sorry I forgot about that”.

Miss Switzerland then admitted her English is not that good, but still she tried her best to deliver Brazil’s answers. These scenes will certainly break your heart, it looks as if Brazil was accepting the fact that she would not be part of the top 4, she already knew her Q&A didn’t go that well.

Miss Brazil maintained her composure and was caught in the background still with her beautiful smile.

Though great production and fine results, definitely a huge development from last two years. Miss Earth and Carousel production, your downfall (as usual), no interpreter or lame interpreter.

There were a lot of beautiful and intelligent women in the competition this year, so we have to ask: Do you think the right contestant won?

If not, who would you have liked to see walk away with the coveted title?

What do you think?
