The official Twitter account of Pope Francis (@Pontifex) has posted four tweets in the Filipino language since he arrived in the Philippines for a five-day visit.
A day after he arrived to a warm welcome of hundreds of thousands late Thursday afternoon, Pope Francis said the country was a sign of Church’s youth and vibrancy.
The @Pontifex tweet was retweeted 5,040 times and favorited 5,175 times some 10 minutes after it was posted.
The Pope’s second tweet was a follow-up to his message on the importance of family in society.
Pope Francis on Saturday reminded his followers about the compassion of God, in his third tweet in Tagalog. The Pope reiterated his earlier message to survivors of super typhoon Yolanda during his short visit to Tacloban earlier in the day.
Pope Francis tweeted again in Filipino shortly after noon Sunday after an encounter with the youth at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, urging the faithful to reach out to the needy and serve them.
Pope Francis’ fourth tweet in Filipino got over 4,100 retweets and 5,200 favorites in the first 15 minutes. His official Twitter account, @pontifex, has over 5.2 million followers.
The @Pontifex Twitter account has 5 million followers and is currently in the Philippines for what he described mainly as a “pastoral visit.”
