LOOK: Judy Ann Santos to star in ‘Tiyanak’ remake

The Tiyanak is a vampiric creature in Philippine mythology that imitates in the form of a child. It takes the form of a newborn baby and cries like one in the jungle to attract unwary travelers. Once it is picked up by the victim, it transforms into an ugly creature and attacks the victim. The tiyanak is also depicted to take malevolent delight in leading travelers astray or in abducting children.

Urban legends have slightly different versions of the tiyanak folklore, the stories all agree on its ability to mimic an infant, with its ability to imitate an infant’s cries for luring victims. Others believe however, the Tiyanak may take the form of a specific child.

Other version, it retains the general shape of a baby but then forms sharp claws and fangs to attack its victim. It also shares certain similarities with dwarfs but the “true” form of the tiyanak is that of a little old man with wrinkled skin, a long beard and mustache, a flat nose and eyes the size of peseta coins.

The “Queen Of Soap Opera”, is set to star in the remake of the hit horror film “Tiyanak”. The story of the film stays the same but added quite a few changes like the modern set up and the characters as well.

The film is about the story of Julie, characterized by Janice de Belen, who takes care of an abandoned child, who has demonic and vampriric powers.

The remake will be directed again by Peque Gallaga with Lory Reyes. The film is set to be released before Halloween this year.
