Keep Your Heads High, Gilas Pilipinas!

When I saw Gilas Coach Chot Reyes getting teary eyed just few seconds before their game against Puerto Rico ends, my eyes started to get teary eyed too. I can feel my heart wanting to explode.

But when the camera caught the glimpse of Marc Pingris, with a towel covering half of his face, with his eyes already red in tears, I just cried. My heart just exploded in so much pain.

Gilas Pilipinas is officially out of contention for the FIBA Basketball World Cup after losing to Puerto Rico, 77-73, on Wednesday night.

My heart bleeds for Gilas Pilipinas.

No words maybe enough to comfort them right now. We, Filipinos, were all hurt. And if it is painful to us, imagine how painful this loss is to them.

They fought will all their hearts and they gave us all reasons to cheer and be proud of our country. They endured all the emotional and physical pains. They may have not given us the podium finish but they fought gallantly despite the loss.

We can stop the blaming game. Let us just be proud of them. Let’s welcome them back with all our hearts and tell them to keep their heads high.

They may not have won the games, but they have already won the hearts and admiration of Filipino fans and even international fans all over the world. We have made our mark.

We salute you! Thank you Gilas Pilipinas!
