Cancer is one of the most devastating realities in this day and age. It is a deadly disease that is claiming the lives of millions of people all over the world. There are some cancer patients who manage to survive, but the side effects are sometimes dramatic, as is Eric Moger’s case.
Eric’s battle with cancer started six years ago when he was scheduled to have a routine operation so as to remove nasal polyps. Unfortunately, the doctors found that there was a tumor on the left side of his face. It was a terrifying form of tumor which was the size of a tennis ball!
He was diagnosed with advanced Squamous Cell Carcinoma. In an attempt to save Eric’s life the doctors had to remove practically most of the left side of his face. This included his cheekbone, his jaw and even his left eye. The photo of Eric’s face after the surgery is shocking. He cannot speak clearly or even eat and drink in a normal way. He got very depressed and put off his wedding with his fiancée.
Luckily, after appearing on a reality show Eric was given help by Dr. Christian Jessen and dental surgeon Andrew Dawood. Thanks to digital scanning technology and software a prosthetic mask for Eric was designed. This was then built in nylon prosthetic mold and filled with silicon so that Eric could wear it.
Eric is now thankful for being a survivor. He has married his fiancée and continuing to live.
