Gilas Pilipinas passes its first test in 17th Asian Games by defeating India, 85-76.
Gilas Pilipinas won over India in their first match at the 2014 Asian Games on September 23, Tuesday.
The two teams last met in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup in July, where Gilas Pilipinas won with a final score of 70-65. At that time, Marcus Douthit dominated the boards with 12 rebounds and scored 14 points, while Paul Lee Dalistan led the team in scoring with 15 points and added 5 rebounds.
Like their previous match-up, India presented their character and fought back until the very end. They patiently waited and executed their offense but ended 84-76 with 44 ticks left after a pair of triples.
Gilas shot 32-61 from the field for 52% while India shot 28-63 for 44%. Gilas hit 9-20 from three point range while India hit 12-27.
Gilas Pilipinas particularly keen on facing and defeating their longtime nemesis, Iran on Thursday, September 25 in a rematch of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championships Finals while India faces Iran on Wednesday. The top two teams of Group E will advance to the quarterfinals.
