Escalator accidents: cleaner’s leg crushed by escalator during mishap at a Shanghai mall

Recently, the number of escalator accidents in China has increased due to negligence and lack of regular checks. In 2011, a boy was killed and 30 others were injured after an escalator shifted directions in Beijing Zoo.

The recent victim is an unnamed 35 year old man who was about to start cleaning the escalator at the cloud nine shopping mall on Saturday.

As he was mopping, one of the plates shifted causing him to fall into the motor pit, and exposing his left leg which was crushed.

He was rushed by the mall security to the hospital where part of his left leg was amputated.
