THE Department of Health (DoH) revealed an odd Barangay Health Station (BHS) venture worth P8.1 billion.
This was a revelation coming from Secretary of Health Francisco Duque III as he exposed a multi-billion anomaly in one of the projects of Department of Health (DOH’s), the development of school-based Barangay Health Stations (BHS).
The primary objective of the BHS project is to create a barangay health station with PhilHealth accreditation, to guarantee access of each barangay to primary care, utilizing open primary schools as distinguished sites.
In accordance with the President’s firm campaign against corruption at all levels in the government, Duque started his own investigation inside DOH because of doubts, following the reports on anomalies and inconsistencies in procurement process; Commission on Audit reports; and officials from the DOH recommending payments without proper approval and money related inconsistencies.
Duque has asked for the Office of the Ombudsman for an investigation to scrutinize officials responsible for the acquisition of the BHS.
