Rose Mary Vogel, 66, was sentenced to one year in jail and four years of probation in Maricopa County Superior Court Tuesday. Her husband said he forgave her and the couple plans to attend marriage counseling.
An Arizona woman will spend every weekend for a year in jail after injecting a syringe filled with fecal matter into her husbands IV.
Phillip, a retired police officer, was hospitalized for a heart condition on January 30 when a hospital employee witnessed Rose Mary touching the pump and line, according to media reports.
The nurse inspected the line and found a brown liquid in the saline solution, which smelled of feces. The nurse disconnected the line from the patient and went to seek help.
When she got back she saw Rose Mary trying to hide the evidence in the trash can.
During search, they discovered three syringes tainted with fecal matter inside of her purse.
Beginning the day after Christmas, Rose Mary must turn herself in at a Maricopa County jail, which will be her new home each weekend for a year.
Husband Phillip Vogel said he forgave her and still loved her. The couple, with 35 years of marriage under their belt, plan to go to marriage counseling.
