Team Gwen: Taylor John Williams (“Mad World” by Tears for Fears) defeats Troy Ritchie (“Hey Ya!” by OutKast) |

Taylor John covers songs closely associated with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert during American Idol‘s eighth season — and that’s pretty obvious but in terms of tone, emotional connection to the music and stage presence. Taylor, for his part, was the key lime of the competition.

On the other hand we thought that we would never in a million years see someone perform “Hey Ya” on The Voice stage. It was no doubt an entertaining performance. However, it didn’t provide Troy the freedom to use his vocal range. One huge positive thing about that song, besides it being entertaining, it allowed Troy to show off his awesome, unique tone. But still…”Hey Ya?”

The winner of the knockouts is Taylor. Troy Ritchie is eliminated.
