Newly-crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach is vibrant in red as she appeared on Live with Kelly and Michael on Monday, January 4.
The 26-year-old beauty queen was welcomed with loud cheers from the audience as she made her way to the stage.
During the interview, host Kelly Ripa asked how she felt when Steve Harvey initially called out Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, as the winner.
“I was just thinking to myself, ‘Okay, I made it this far, I’m pretty sure I made my country proud, and that’s good enough for me.’ I know I did everything I could, I know I did very well,” she answered.
Wurtzbach, who spent Christmas and New Year in New York since the controversial pageant ending, revealed that the historic triumph did not sink in until after she had a good cry backstage.
“‘Did I really win? Is this final? Are you gonna come back and take the crown from me?’ But then they reassured me that ‘Yes, you are the winner, you are Miss Universe,'” she recalled asking her manager.
And since she did not get her final walk during the prestigious pageant, Ripa and co-host Michael Strahan gave the stage to Wurtzbach to do her Miss Universe walk.
