Veteran actress Cherie Gil was emotional during her appearance on It’s Showtime on Thursday as one of the three judges for the ‘Magpasikat’ Week.
Magpasikat’ Week is a yearly tradition on the program where co-hosts showcase their talents in groups.
Vice Ganda, who teamed up with Ryan Bang, debuted his own composition about equality and acceptance, with children with special needs joining him in the emotional performance.
After Vice Ganda’s performance, a teary-eyed Gil issued her apology to the comedian over her tweet about the controversial segment in his May 2013 concert at the Araneta Colisuem that says: “To Vice Ganda: you’re one of those scums of the earth. Shame on the Filipinos who laugh at such insensitivity and tactlessness.” This was her reaction after Vice Ganda poked fun at broadcast journalist Jessica Soho’s weight.
“I would like to personally apologize to you because I know that at some point in the past I have reacted to one of your stand up stints which maybe perhaps have been written by someone else and I didn’t take that into consideration at that time,” Gil told Vice Ganda during the ABS-CBN noontime variety show Showtime.
“I realized that at the end of the day it all comes down to getting to know the person better and understanding every story that each person goes through. Today, I saw your authenticity and your honesty,” Gil said.
The actress, in tears, said the number also triggered her to re-assess what message she has imparted so far after 35 years as a public figure. “It is not [about] the image but the message we give to inspire people,” she said.
“Thank you, Vice Ganda, so much for letting me get to know you today in the deepest, more real sense, in your most honest being, and for letting me get to know you as a person through that song,” she said.
Vice Ganda was seen in tears while the veteran actress was giving her apology.
