Urban density is a common problem for many countries. There are so many residences to cater for the large population that any green areas, or even pedestrian lanes and sidewalks are practically non-existent. Many believe that this has various repercussions healthwise, apart from the fact that cramming is not something anyone would look forward to.
Just consider two key issues – namely garbage disposal and drainage. The impact of urban density on these systems is upsetting – just imagine if there is a problem and the resultant repercussions. And this is just one aspect. You also need to take into account the fact that there is no space or beautiful scenery available, no proper areas where kids can play and no open areas for families to enjoy.
This aerial shot was posted Saturday on Facebook by a TV personality Daphne Oseña-Paez with the following caption:
Was that previous photo legit? Yup. Taken along the Taguig-Pasig flight path. I just zoomed and crop. No need for aerial shots. Look around your city. Walk it, if you dare brave the non-existent sidewalks. Cross the non-existent pedestrian lanes. Where are the trees? Did anyone even care? Everyone is quick to blame the leaders. But all this happened because of us. Who voted for them? Who allowed this to happen? And it didnt happen overnight.
If you were to take a look at this aerial shot of Pasig City, it literally takes your breath away as all you can see are roofs, roofs, and more roofs. The first instinct may be to blame whoever is the leader or allowed this to happen. But at the end of the day, these leaders were selected by the voters themselves.
So ultimately everybody is to blame. Urban density and overpopulation are problems that need to be addressed in some way or another, rather than simply accusing anyone and stop there. That is surely not going to solve anything.
