The University of the Philippines had a bit of a struggle in their game against University of the East Lady Warriors last Wednesday, December 10 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Maroons started slow in the first set allowing UE to get an early lead 12-9, prompting Coach Jerry Yee to ask the girls to do a drill during a timeout.
The drill came out to be effective as the UP Lady Maroons finished the match in 3-sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-16 improving their team standing to 2-3.
Reigning UAAP Best Blocker Kathy Bersola led the Diliman spikers with 12 points including four power blocks.
Angeli Araneta had 11 markers — 10 off kills — and Nicole Tiamzon chipped in with 10 points. Ariana Ilustre also contributed to the team along with Caryl Sandoval who had to replace Vina Alinas who left the match in the second set after spraining her right ankle.
Meanwhile, UE Lady Warriors remains winless both in matches and in sets — in the tournament. Shaya Adorador posted 10 points for UE while Leuseht Dawis and rookie Roselle Baliton added seven and six markers. UE has now lost 36 straight games.
