Pope Francis has finally arrived in Manila for his much-awaited five-day state and apostolic visit to the Philippines, considered as the Asia’s bastion of Catholicism.
The Sri Lankan Airlines flight carrying the Supreme Pontiff landed at 5:32 p.m. Thursday at the Villamor Airbase, with about 1,000 children singing and dancing to welcome the Pope.

A cheerful Pope Francis disembarked from the plane at about 5:59 p.m.
Thousands of devoted catholics who have been waiting for the Pope’s arrival since this morning cheered excitedly as they finally saw in person the leader of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis was welcomed by President Benigno Aquino III and other government officials as well as church officials.
Meanwhile, the two orphaned children who were also among those who welcomed Pope Francis received hugs from the pontiff after they offered him flowers.
