The Philippines has been chosen to be one of the 3 hosts for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament set for July 4 to 10, FIBA announced on Tuesday, January 19.
The other two countries which were granted hosting rights to determine the wildcard entries to the Rio Olympics are Italy and Serbia.

A total of 15 teams already have a place in the wildcard tournament after finishing second in the different regional championships. Another three, depending on which country wins the hosting rights, will complete the 18-team field.
Gilas Pilipinas is among the 18 teams competing in the qualifiers after failing to nail an outright Olympic berth when they lost to China in the 2015 Fiba Asia Championship last October. They join the wild card qualifiers with Asian third and fourth placers Iran and Japan.
With Italy and Serbia hosting tournaments, Lebanon, Latvia, and Croatia also advance to the wild card qualifiers to complete the 18 teams in the three competitions.
Other teams already qualified are France, Greece, Czech Republic, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Angola, Tunisia, Senegal, and New Zealand.
