Napoles Daughter Posts Bail On P17-M Tax Charges

JEANE Catherine Napoles, daughter of alleged mastermind of pork barrel scam Janet Napoles, posted bail on Monday at the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) in connection with her P17.88-million tax evasion charges.

Napoles’ lawyer, Stephen David, said her client posted P50,000 for her temporary liberty.

The case stemmed from a tax evasion case filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue last year for the younger Napoles’ alleged failure to file income tax returns for the years 2011 and 2012, the years when she supposedly acquired the Ritz Carlton condominium unit in the US and a farm lot in Pangasinan, respectively.
But Jeane’s lawyers are contesting the case since they say she has no income of her own and therefore is not required to pay income tax.

She will be arraigned before the CTA First Division on April 22. Napoles also has another tax evasion case pending at the CTA Third Division.

“Nag-post na tayo ng bail bond sa Court of Tax Appeals. First and Third Division kaya lang ‘yung Third, dinefer ‘yung posting ng bail bond kasi may judicial determination of probable cause kasi. Sa First Division, inadmit nila ‘yung aming bail bond na P50,000. One count each ‘yun for non-filing daw of income tax,” Atty. Stephen David said in a media interview.
