LOOK: Josie Rizal (First Filipina Character) Officially Revealed For Tekken 7

Finally, a FILIPINO Tekken 7 players are all excited to use a Filipino character in the said game.

Josie Rizal is a fighter of Filipino descent. She was named after Dr. Jose Rizal, a prominent national hero of the Philippines. Mad Catz community manager Mark “MarkMan” Julio, who is also an avid fan of the game, helped out with the creators and staff ofBandai Namco Games to make Josie a possibility for the game. Now Filipino fans of the game will have something more to look forward to!

The character is named “Josie Rizal,” a play on the name of the country’s national hero. She is a kick boxer who is also adept with the Eskrima technique.

In the trailer released on Sunday, Josie is seen wearing a gold dress and a blue skirt with gladiator sandals. She is also accessorized with gold earrings, bracelets and a red headband. She also spoke in English.

Josie’s voice is okay. I actually don’t want to hear her speak Tagalog. Filipinos don’t normally speak it outside of talking with other Filipinos after all- they ALWAYS talk the language of the area to mix in. If you don’t like her, well, that’s fair- the design isn’t incredibly good or even particularly ‘Filipino’-looking (it was designed by the Bayonetta artist, I guess). I would have taken away the yellow of the top, rather make it white with yellow trim, and given her capri length pants and maybe remove those sandals.

Her fighting style looks pretty neat anyway- with how Manny Pacquiao is so famous, I would not have been surprised if they made her a straight up boxer, but then Eskrima IS a real Filipino fighting style, so why not.
