Valentino Abeyta Barrera was set upon by Chilean mob after allegedly attempting to rob a pensioner by holding a knife to his throat.
A large crowd dished out some very sweaty justice to an alleged robber who was spotted attempting to rob a pensioner with a knife – he was stripped naked, then wrapped head to foot in cling film and tied to a lamp-post.
People took to social media their anger and frustration towards a 32-year-old Valentino Abeyta Barrera sweltered in Chilean capital Santiago’s 27-degree heat, with his underpants around his ankles.
Photographs of the incident were posted on various social media sites where they quickly went viral, and sparked heated debate over vigilante justice.
Local authorities arrived after 20 minutes and asked the man tied to the lamp-post what was going on and he refused to explain why he was there, asking only that he be freed.
After Barrera was released and taken to the police station, police said they had been forced to let him go because the alleged victim of the man’s attack had not made a complaint.
A police spokesman said: ‘Unless the man who was tied to the lamppost or his alleged victim want to file a complaint, there is not much we can do.’
