Lois Lowry’s The Giver makes film debut

Fans of Lois Lowry’s ‘The Giver‘ must be very anxious right now to see the movie adaptation of this 1993 American children’s novel. This novel was the winner of the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide and fans are very eager to find out if the movie will live up to their expectations.

The Giver‘, an upcoming science fiction film is a haunting story that centers on the 16 year old boy named Jonas, played by Australian actor Brenton Thwaites who lives in a utopian society, colorless, world of conformity and ignorant bliss. Not until The Giver passes all memories and knowledge of the past world to him does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.

The Giver casts include Jeff Bridges as the Giver and Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder trying to sustain a utopia by rearranging people’s memories, personalities and destinies. Jonas’ parents are played by Katie Holmes and Alexander Skarsgård and Taylor Swift adds more star power as she plays the role of Rosemary, another teen mentored by The Giver.

According to MTV News, the new movie may be bigger than “Divergent” or even “Hunger Games,” as “The Giver” is the real original dystopian young adult story.

Directed by Phillip Noyce (Director of ‘Salt’) , The Giver hits theaters on August 15.
