How Chinese beachgoers are keeping their skin white at the beach

Invented by Zhang Shifan, in 2004, the facekini has become a popular way for women to keep their faces white while at the beach.

Zhang says she never thought the facekini would become so famous with more than 30, 000 wearers last year. At first children thought the mask scary, prompting Zhang to seek advice from the Peking opera for inspirations to make the designs less thug like and more of a fashion statement and a protective shield.

There are now many comments concerning this new beach fashion with many different opinions being expressed in the many social media platforms.
