Florida Bus Driver Rescued Children From Burning Bus

A school bus driver from Davenport is now recognized as a hero on Wednesday after safely getting close to 40 student off of a bus before it burst into flames.

The students were on its way to Discovery Academy when, shortly after 7:00, bus driver Kristina Behrman, 31, says she saw smoke coming from the back of the bus. She pulled over just in time and called 911.

She says within minutes the smoke turned into fire.

“I evacuated the kids off the bus and that’s when flames started coming out of the back,” she says.

A 10 News viewer passing by the scene capture the fire on a cell phone. The video shows the flames shooting into the sky and barrels of smoke filling the air.
