Former congressman and actor Dennis Roldan has been found guilty of masterminding the kidnapping of a three-year-old Filipino-Chinese boy in 2005.
The Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 167 Judge Rolando Mislang ordered Roldan’s immediate incarceration at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlipa City.
Roldan was given a life imprisonment sentence along with his two companions Rowena San Andres and Adrian Domingo after being found guilty in the kidnap-for-ransom case.They were ordered to pay 100,000 pesos in civil indemnity, 100,000 pesos for moral damages and 100,000 pesos for exemplary damages to the family of the kidnap victim.
Suzette Wang, alleged co-conspirator in the abduction, was also ordered arrested.
On February 9, 2005, then three-year-old Kenshi Yu and his nanny were on their way to school when Yu was grabbed by several men in Pasig City. Yu was rescued 11 days later by forces of Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response Group (PACER) in a safe house in Cubao, Quezon City. On February 21, 2005, Roldan, along with six of his cohorts, was arrested. According to written testimonies of their cohorts, Roldan and Suzette Wang, his girlfriend at that time and friend of the Yu’s mother, masterminded the kidnapping of the kid and demanded P200 million for the kid’s release.
Roldan posted a bail of P500,000, became a pastor and recently starred in GMA Network’s “My Destiny” series, which started last June along with Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez.
Former DLSU volleyball player and Roldan’s daughter, Michele Gumabao shared a post on Twiiter to express support to her father.
Roldan said he is confident that they would still be able to appeal the decision.
