The Philippine women’s volleyball team will kick off their campaign at the 2015 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on June 10 at 12 noon (Manila time).
Team Pilipinas led by Team Captain Jovelyn Gonzaga and UAAP’s back-to-back MVP Alyssa Valdez, under the helm of Coach Roger Gorayeb and Coach Tai Bundit, will face against 2013 Women’s Volleyball runner up, Indonesia. Supporting them are Jaja Santiago, Gretchel Soltones, Jia Morado, and Bea de Leon, together with veterans Rachel Anne Daquis, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Aby Maraño, Rhea Dimaculangan, Maika Ortiz, and libero Denden Lazaro.
Philippines is in Group B along with Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Host Singapore is in Group A along with Thailand and Myanmar. The top two teams advance outright to the crossover semis, with the losing semifinalists earning automatic bronze medals.
Team Pilipinas will compete in the SEA Games for the first time since bagging the bronze medal in 2005 when the Philippines hosted the games.
